Referee’s wholesome words after Brad Marchand’s mic’d up chirp

Brad Marchand is well known for his never-ending chirping. The Bruins captain was mic’d up during Canada’s game against Finland in the 4 Nations Face-Off earlier this week, and he delivered a hilarious chirp to a former Boston Bruins teammate. But the referee stole the show with the most wholesome response.

Marchand has always been a skillful player, but he’s best known for his on-ice antics. He’s done everything from licking opponents’ faces to earning more individual suspensions than any player in league history. And yeah, he’s one heck of a chirper as well—a trademark that has made him one of the NHL’s top agitators.

Brad Marchand brought that same energy into the 4 Nations Face-Off, and his former Boston teammate, Urho Vaakanainen, got to experience it firsthand in Canada’s game against Finland earlier this week.

Hilarious words to Brad Marchand

The most heated game of the tournament was, of course, the matchup between Canada and the United States on Saturday, featuring three fights in the first nine seconds. But things also got testy between Canada and Finland—especially between former teammates Marchand and Vaakanainen. The two were involved in a scrum after a whistle, and Marchand didn’t take long to chirp his old teammate.
“What are you going to do, Vaaks? You f—king pigeon,” Brad Marchand said.

Although fans found Marchand’s chirp hilarious, the moment got even funnier when the referee responded with a wholesome request.
“Hey! No calling guys pigeons,” he said.
