Anything can happen during a hockey game—but this is probably something we’ve never, ever heard before. Players were caught on a hot mic during a KHL game, and now fans are calling it one of the most absurd things ever said on the ice.
If you play hockey at the highest level, you have to be careful about what you say or do. There are cameras everywhere, and nowadays, even microphones that can catch every word. Teams often have their own ways of recording what happens on the ice, but it’s also common for broadcasters or TV networks to have some kind of audio recording. And of course, there are always the referees’ hot mics.
Anything you say or do can be scrutinized, and if something strange or unexpected happens, you can bet it will spread quickly on social media. Now, a video from the KHL—the top Russian league—is doing exactly that after capturing one of the most absurd hot mic moments we’ve ever seen (or heard).
Hilarious hot mic in the KHL
During a game between Dynamo Moscow and Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, former NHLer and Team Canada World Juniors captain Maxime Comtois got into an argument with Russian player Semyon Kizimov. Suddenly, Canadian defenseman Darren Dietz, a teammate of Kizimov’s, skated up to his fellow countryman, and no one expected what would happen next.
Instead of backing his teammate in the argument, Dietz said, “I’d f—king love for you to take the wheels off that guy, f—k me.” When Comtois asked if he was talking about No. 97, Dietz responded, “Ya, ya, ya.”
The KHL’s official Instagram account posted the video, and it quickly went viral, with fans finding it absolutely hilarious.
“I have a few colleagues I’d love to see have their wheels beat off, lol,” one person commented.
“Lol, damn, that’s cold from your own teammate,” another wrote.
“He covered his mouth to hide from the cameras but got caught by the mic. Cold world,” a third added.
