Canada has started the World Championships in Prague, Czech Republic, with four straight wins. They won against Norway on Wednesday, and the main man in offense is Connor Bedard.
Bedard was drafted first overall and didn’t disappoint in his first NHL season. He entered the league with huge expectations, and although the Blackhawks ranked 31st out of 32 teams in the regular season, Bedard played some great hockey throughout the year.
Bedard missed over a month of play due to a broken jaw but still managed 61 points in 68 games.
Now, Bedard is lighting up the World Championships with six points in four games.
But earlier this week, he was slammed for his behavior in the game against Denmark.
Bedard scored two goals in the game but didn’t look thrilled. After the goals, he showed basically no emotions and didn’t celebrate at all.
Bedard barely had a smile on his face as he skated towards the bench, and it led to some criticism.
The former NHLer Jakub Voracek, who retired last month after playing 1,058 games in the NHL, is an analyst on Czech TV during this year’s tournament.
And during one of the broadcast, he slammed Bedard for how he acted after his goals against Denmark.
He even called it disrespectful against his opponents.
”I don’t like it. And to celebrate goal is normal. Non celebration is more disrespectful than celebrate it. He is a f—king player though,” Voracek said on X, formerly Twitter.
