The 4-Nations Face-Off tournament is just months away, and fans couldn’t be more excited. A new video promoting the tournament with some of the NHL’s biggest stars is now making the rounds on social media—and it has everyone laughing.
For the first time since the World Cup of Hockey in 2016, the world’s best players will gather to compete for their respective nations as the NHL takes a pause for the 4 Nations Face-Off, which will be held in Montreal and Boston.
The USA, Canada, Sweden, and Finland will compete over eight days in February, with superstars such as Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews, Sidney Crosby, Mikko Rantanen, and William Nylander being on the rosters.
Hilarious 4 Nations Face-Off video
NHL players are also set to play in the 2026 Winter Olympics hockey tournament, and fans absolutely love when nations compete—especially when all the best players are available for selection.
This hasn’t been the case in the annual World Championships, so fans couldn’t be more eager for the upcoming tournament. The superstars are already kicking off promotions ahead of the big showdown.
On Thursday, a clip featuring some of the NHL’s biggest stars—set to compete in the 4 Nations Face-Off—went viral, but not for the reason originally intended. In the video, players like Nathan MacKinnon, Auston Matthews, Quinn Hughes, and Connor McDavid introduce themselves by simply saying their names, shortly after a gray figure of themselves appears on the screen. The whole thing resembled the classic Pokémon scenes where viewers guess which Pokémon is about to appear.

Some of the introductions were absolutely hilarious and super awkward, and it looked like some of them really didn’t want to be there. It’s uncertain why and how these introductions were filmed and for what purpose they’re supposed to be used, but fans couldn’t stop laughing at some of them.
”Matthews just made me spit out my coffee,” one said.
“This is a middle school project right? … Right??” another said.
”McDavid looks legit disgusted he has to do this,” a third added.
”Not gonna lie… I’ve watched it about 10 times now,” a fourth added.
