Canada was out for revenge after losing to the U.S. in the group stage of the 4 Nations Face-Off. The game was one for the history books, with three fights in the first nine seconds. Canadian fans booed the American anthem before puck drop in Montreal, and the players weren’t about to let it slide. The Tkachuk brothers and J.T. Miller dropped the gloves, before Team USA ultimately took control, winning 3-1.
However, when it mattered most, Canada came out on top. Nathan MacKinnon, who would later be named tournament MVP, scored to give Canada a 1-0 lead just 4:48 into the game. The puck found its way through a crowd in front of the net to beat Connor Hellebuyck. Brady Tkachuk then tied the game at 1-1 before Jake Sanderson put the U.S. ahead. But before the second period ended, Sam Bennett—who fought Brady Tkachuk in the first game between the teams—scored Canada’s second goal.

The game finished 2-2 in regulation, and in overtime, the U.S. had their chances to win. But Jordan Binnington put on a superstar performance to deny them the championship, and when Connor McDavid, the best player in the world, got the chance to decide the game, he took it.

Crosby was sitting on the bench at the time of the game-winning goal, but cameras captured his awesome reaction. What stood out, though, was the fact that Crosby flashed a big smile before the puck even went into the net, almost as if he knew McDavid would score. On social media, fans went wild over the video of Crosby seemingly trusting his pal to win the game.
