Paul Bissonnette is a former NHL player, born in Welland, Ontario, on March 11, 1985. Nicknamed "Biz Nasty," he made his NHL debut during the 2008-09 season, playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
He retired in 2017 and is currently a studio analyst for NHL on TNT and co-host of the popular hockey podcast Spittin’ Chiclets.
Paul Bissonnette was drafted 31st overall by the North Bay Centennials in the 2001 OHL Draft.
As an 18-year-old, he won gold with Team Canada in the Nations Cup. In 2003, he was selected in the fourth round, 121st overall, by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL Entry Draft.
That same year, Bissonnette was named captain of the Saginaw Spirit in the OHL, where he finished ninth in points. His professional career began during the 2005-06 season with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.
He also played 55 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL that season.
In 2008-09, Bissonnette earned a spot on the Pittsburgh Penguins roster, playing alongside teammates like Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby, Kris Letang, and Ryan Whitney—whom he would later co-host Spittin’ Chiclets with. Bissonnette was claimed off waivers by the Phoenix Coyotes on October 1, 2009.
On November 12 of that year, he scored his first NHL goal against goaltender Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens. Bissonnette remained with the Coyotes for five seasons before returning to the AHL. He retired from professional hockey in 2017.
Months before his official retirement from hockey, Bissonnette was announced as the Coyotes' radio booth color commentator.
A year later, on April 11, 2018, he became a co-host of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, owned by Barstool Sports. The podcast quickly became a huge success and has since grown into one of hockey's most popular podcasts.
In 2021, Bissonnette was announced as an analyst for NHL on TNT, working alongside Wayne Gretzky, Anson Carter, and Rick Tocchet. Since then, analysts like Henrik Lundqvist and Keith Yandle have joined the production.
In a Tweet posted back in 2017, Paul Bissonnette, who is French Canadian, disclosed that he started going to English speaking School first in the 7th grade, which means he do speak French.
