Macklin Celebrini, born June 13, 2006, is a Canadian professional ice hockey player for the San Jose Sharks of the NHL. He became the youngest player ever to win the Hobey Baker Award, given to the top men's player in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). He was selected first overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

Macklin Celebrini Early Life

Macklin Celebrini grew up in Vancouver, playing hockey there before moving to San Jose in 2019 due to his father’s work. That season, he played for the San Jose Jr. Sharks program.

His father, Rick Celebrini, was a former soccer player for the Vancouver 86ers before transitioning into a career in sports medicine. He worked with the Vancouver Canucks before being hired as the director of sports medicine and performance for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors.

Macklin’s older brother, Aiden Celebrini, was drafted by the Canucks in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. The two played together at Boston University during the 2023-24 college season.

Celebrini Amateur Career

Macklin Celebrini joined the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League (USHL) for the 2022-23 season and dominated, scoring 86 points—setting a record for the most ever by an under-17 player. He led the league in scoring and became the first player in USHL history to win Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and Forward of the Year in the same season.

Macklin Celebrini committed to Boston University for the 2023-24 season, where he continued his stellar play, recording 64 points in 38 games as a freshman. His outstanding performance earned him several individual awards, most notably the Hobey Baker Award, making him the youngest winner ever and only the fourth freshman to win, following Paul Kariya, Jack Eichel, and Adam Fantilli.

Macklin Celebrini NHL Career

Macklin Celebrini was selected first overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft and signed a three-year, $2.925 million entry-level contract with the team on July 6, 2024.

Celebrini made his NHL debut on October 10, 2024, scoring his first career goal and adding an assist in a 5-4 overtime loss to the St. Louis Blues.

As of March 24, 2025, Celebrini ranks second among NHL rookies in points, trailing only Lane Hutson of the Montreal Canadiens. However, he leads all rookies in points per game (0.90).
