Carolina Hurricanes History

The Carolina Hurricanes franchise was founded in 1971 as the New England Whalers. The Whalers had some significant success in the WHA before joining the NHL in 1979. The team relocated to North Carolina in 1997 and rebranded as the Hurricanes. They won their first and only Stanley Cup in the 2005-06 season.
