Calgary Flames History

As the NHL sought to outcompete the WHA, they expanded the league with the New York Islanders. Needing another team to balance the schedule, the league also granted one to Atlanta, and the Atlanta Flames were founded in 1972. In 1980, the team relocated to Calgary.
