There is truly no doubt that Wayne Gretzky is the best hockey player that’s ever walked the earth. ”The Great One” finished his career with a sensational total of 894 goals, 1 963 assist and 2,857, and his No. 99 is still retired from the NHL.
Wayne Gretzky was a unique talent, and he showed his amazing qualities season after season, and really changed how hockey was played. Wayne Gretzky could simply do it all, and that’s why he’s the best player in the history of the NHL.
But according to Gretzky himself, he had a little secret to collect some of his points. Back in 2014, The Great One was mic’d up playing hockey with some old-timers – and the video of it is freaking hilarious.
In the video, Gretzkys’ just strolling around, talking to his teammates about scoring 1000 goals in the NHL and how he loves to drink diet coke on the bench. But he also jokes about stealing some points during his years in the NHL.
During the game, some of Gretzkys’ teammates asks who had the assist on a goal, and Gretzky wasn’t late on answering.
”Gretzky! Now you know how I got all those points!,” he says.
“The old days were like that, they’d go: ‘Who got the assist there? We didn’t see it!’. The guys on the bench were like ‘I got it, I got it!’. In those days they had no tv, no cameras so the referees were in charge of it,” he continues.
Gretzky also slams former NHL legend Phil Esposito.
“They say Phil Esposito got 20 assists one year just sitting on the bench.”
