Connor McDavid had a generational playoff run, but in the end, it wasn’t enough.
McDavid singlehandedly pulled the Oilers from being down 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Finals to getting the chance to play an all-deciding Game 7.
McDavid became the player with the most assists in a playoff season in NHL history and had the fourth most points in a single playoff.
He also became the first player to record back-to-back four-point games in a Stanley Cup Final series.
McDavid won the Conn Smythe Trophy despite the Oilers losing the finals, and McDavid was still in the locker room when NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced him as the winner.
However, McDavid was a class act after the loss, and he was first in line for the handshake line and to congratulate his opponents for winning the Stanley Cup.
After the handshake line, and while the Panthers were still busy celebrating, Connor McDavid showed what great captains do.
B/R Open Ice on X shared a great video of McDavid waiting for every Oiler to go through the long handshake line before leaving the ice.
McDavid made sure to first bump every one of his teammates, despite how terrible he must’ve felt losing at that moment, after the playoff run he had.
McDavid truly left it all out there, and on social media, he was praised for his behavior after the loss.
”That’s a captain right there, he knows he’ll be back,” one user said.
”Good teammate moment,” another said.
”True sportsmanship,” a third added.
”Class act,” a fourth said.
