Just two days ago, Pat Maroon tackled the Red Wings rookie Gustav Lindstrom so hard his helm went flying, with a hit of the year candidate. But last night, he got some stiff competition from who else but Tom Wilson.
The Capitals enforcer isn’t shy about pulling out enormous hits, but the hit against Yevgeni Dadonov might have been the hardest of his career.
It was late in the third period as Dadonov was in his own defensive zone, and he got completely cleaned out by Wilson. Dadonov had no chance of standing up to the hit by Wilson and went spinning around in the air until he crashed into the legs of Alexander Ovechkin, who also fell in the collision.
Dadonov had scored earlier in the game and could leave the ice without help and returned in his next shift. Later, in overtime, he got the assist on the winning goal for the Golden Knights.
