Lian Bichsel sent the St. Louis Blues captain, Brayden Schenn, into the Dallas Stars’ bench. Now, it turns out that Jamie Benn, who sat right where it happened, was mic’d up—and fans can’t stop laughing at what he said to Schenn as he gave him a push onto the ice.
Swiss defenseman Lian Bichsel was drafted 18th overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft by the Dallas Stars. He’s spent the last two seasons in either the AHL or SHL (Swedish top tier), but he was called up from the Texas Stars last Thursday to make his NHL debut with the Stars.
Bichsel, not really known for his offensive abilities, scored the Stars’ only goal in a 4-1 loss to the Nashville Predators. He continued to build on that performance in Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Blues.
Bichsel’s great hit on Schenn
The Stars won 2-1 in OT, and although Bichsel didn’t score or assist in the game, he made a mark in other ways. During the game, Bichsel saw an opportunity to lay a big hit on Blues captain Brayden Schenn, and he definitely took it. He sent Schenn flying onto the Stars’ bench, where he eventually got a push off the bench from none other than Stars captain Jamie Benn.
Fans love it every time a player gets sent into the opposing team’s bench, and this was no different. But it just so happened that Jamie Benn was mic’d up at the time, resulting in an even more hilarious moment.
What Benn said now goes viral
In the video, it’s clear that Schenn is laughing out loud as he struggles to keep his balance while on his back on the Stars’ bench. Jamie Benn also said something to Schenn before giving him a push off the bench, and although it’s not 100 percent certain, many believe Benn’s words were, “I got you, chubby!”
On social media, fans loved the interaction between the two captains.
“Was Schenn laughing? Because that’s hilarious. These guys are such nerds about the game that they enjoy getting checked into the bench,” one user said.
“Lol gaining a shred of respect for Benn was not on my bingo card for today,” another said.
“Hahaha this is awesome. It’s cool to see fun banter every so often,” a third added.
