The first round of the 2022 NHL Draft offered some huge surprises. Shane Wright was expected to be the number one pick but didn’t get picked until the fourth pick by the Seattle Krakens. But just heading into the Draft, teams made some surprising moves. Chicago Blackhawks did the most unexpected thing of them all.
The Blackhawks fans got hyped up initially, as their team tweeted out the eyeballs emoji. The fanbase was expecting something huge. But it turned out it was just an announcement that they traded one of their best goal scorers, Alex DeBrincat, to the Ottawa Senators. In return, the Blackhawks received the No. 7 overall pick, the No. 39 pick, and a 2024 third-rounder.
Alex DeBrincat scored 78 points in 82 games last season, and fans weren’t happy.
“Not good at all,” one fan said on social media.
“Idiots,” another one said.
And it wasn’t just fans who didn’t understand a single bit of the Blackhawks’ decision. When the team announced the trade on Instagram, the verified account of the city of Chicago simply wrote, “L,” short for “loss.”
Talk about friendly fire.
