Soures: Ilya Kovlachuk Set to Sign With Original Six-NHL Team!

With the KHL season officially over for SKA St. Petersburg, Ilya Kovalchuk is now on the market and allowed to sign with any NHL club. Rumors and reports are that Kovalchuk will end up in the Eastern Conference.

The 34-year-old winger from Russia hasn’t played in the NHL since the 2012-2013 season but is looking to return for next year. He left in the middle of his contract with the New Jersey Devils but is now a free-agent. Igor Eronko is an NHL.com contributor to their Russian website, and he is reporting through sources that Kovalchuk is looking to stay 2-3 years at least in the NHL.

What team will he play for? Well, according to Eronko’s sources, Kovalchuk is set to sign with the New York Rangers. New York finished this season with a 34-39-9 record and were sellers at the NHL deadline.

If this is correct, this will be Kovalchuk’s 3rd NHL team. Kovalchuk finished this season in Russia with 63-points in 53 games.
