San Jose Sharks defenceman Erik Karlsson started off slow with his new team but he has certainly picked things up as of late.
The Swedish star has been red hot recently with the Sharks, recording a point in 13 straight games. As Karlsson settles into his new home and franchise, one needs to remember that he will be an unrestricted free agent by the end of this season.
Karlsson could test the market to see what the going rate is for a Norris winner and 28-year-old, but sources are indicating that Karlsson will look to re-sign with the Sharks after the All-Star break.
Pierre LeBrun believes that Karlsson’s agent and Sharks GM Doug Wilson will talk about an extension after the All-Star festivities. San Jose is the location for the game.
If Karlsson does sign an extension with the club, it’ll be interesting to see what San Jose does with the likes of Joe Pavelski, Joe Thornton, and Joonas Donskoi, who are all set to become UFA’s as well.
Will Karlsson sign long-term in San Jose or will he test the free agency market?
