There’s no doubt that Wayne Gretzky is the greatest hockey player in history. Just by looking at the numbers during his NHL rookie season 1979-1980, one could understand that something special was about to happen.
“The Great One” had 137 points, scoring 51 goals and tallying 86 assists, in 79 games for the Edmonton Oilers. He earned both the Hart Trophy and the Lady Byng trophy the same season, in what only was the beginning on an amazing career.
When Gretzky retired, the business of memorabilia of course skyrocketed. People wanted sticks that he played with, pucks that he scored with, skates that he wore or even a mouth card of his.
Like every other great athlete when retiring, memorabilia is a huge thing among many die hard fans.

Ebay User “Platinumpete77” is selling a 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky rookie card. But it’s not like any other hockey card.
“This is the best Wayne Gretzky card I’ve ever seen since I’ve opened one in a pack”, the user writes.
So what about the price tag? Well, if you’d like to purchase the Gretzky rookie card you have to put up $100 000.
If Wayne Gretzky is “The Great One”, this surely has to be “The Great Card”.
