Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley are two of the greatest basketball players of all time. Between them, they hold several individual NBA records and four NBA championships. But when the duo tried their hand at hockey on live TV, they had both hockey and basketball fans in stitches.
Hockey is a unique sport that requires a special set of skills. Not only do you need balance and speed, but also strength, stamina, and excellent coordination. These are things NBA legends Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley learned the hard way—despite not even wearing skates.
Shaquille O’Neal’s NHL Name
On their show Inside the NBA, the Stanley Cup was presented to the hosts, along with a few sticks and pucks. The guys immediately began experimenting with the sticks—though they were using them backwards.
Shaquille O’Neal quickly assumed the role of goalie, dubbing himself “Shaq Hyman” after Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman. Shaq soon realized that hockey is a physical sport and laid out a big hit on Barkley, who was using his stick more like a golf club. The hilarious clip has fans cracking up.
“These grown folks are having way too much fun! I envy them,” one person wrote.
“As a Canadian… I’m just happy I’m better than Shaq at a sport,” another added.
