Just last week, Buffalo Sabres rink-side reporter Rob Ray was struck above the eye with a puck during an NHL game. He wasn’t about to let it happen again. During the Sabres’ game against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, Ray took matters into his own hands—in the most hilarious way possible.
A former top NHL enforcer, Ray still holds the franchise record for the most penalty minutes in a Sabres uniform, racking up 3,189 over his career. He was as tough as they come, and it seems that hasn’t changed.
Last week, while covering a Sabres game against the Rangers, Ray was hit above the eye by a puck. His natural reaction? A very NSFW outburst on the broadcast. Fortunately, he was okay, but he had clearly had enough of rogue pucks finding his face. This was the second time in as many seasons that he had taken a puck to the head—and he was determined to make sure there wouldn’t be a third.
Rob Ray’s hilarious move
So, when the Sabres faced the Ducks, Ray opted for a safer vantage point. Instead of working between the benches, he relocated—way up in the nosebleeds of KeyBank Center. When the broadcast zoomed in on him sitting in the top row of the arena, it made for an absolutely hilarious moment.
As if that wasn’t entertaining enough, the Sabres capped off the night by erasing a two-goal deficit in the third period to pull off a 3-2 win over Anaheim.
