With the trade deadline less than three weeks away, teams are gearing up to land special rental players or potential game changers that could help launch their team over the hump in the playoffs.
One name floating around is New York Rangers forward Rick Nash. Nash is at the end of his contract with the Rangers and while there are no reports that Nash and New York are on negative terms, the club has asked Nash to turn in a no-trade list.
The 33-year-old winger is currently making just over $7.5 million dollars this season. Nash has tallied 15 goals and 25 points over 53 games.
TSN’s Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie revealed that the starting point for Nash is “a first-round pick, a top prospect, and another lesser player or prospect or pick.” McKenzie went on to say that at the start of negotiations many GM’s feel that the asking price for rental players is too high, meaning the value could significantly drop between now and deadline day.
Nash is at the end of his contract and will become a free-agent next season, meaning teams will need to look at potentially signing the forward or coming to terms that Nash could walk after the playoffs are finished.
