It’s not personal, just business. The Montreal Canadiens could be without their Captain in the near future, as rumors are circulating that Max Pacioretty may be dealt ahead of the NHL’s trade deadline on February 26th.
Pacioretty’s name has been tossed around by insiders and analysts, but it looks like talks are starting to really heat up. Insider Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reported Monday that “the Pacioretty clan expects that he will be gone in the next few days.”
Lavoie has sources and is connected inside the Canadiens’ locker room, and his sources will certainly be tested with these reports.
Of course, if Pacioretty heads out, that means someone will be dealt to Montreal. So, what can Pacioretty fetch? You’d have to think that GM Marc Bergevin would be getting a nice deal involving an NHL ready talent and maybe even some prospects and picks.
Pacioretty is the current team leader in points (16g. 15a) and has been the Captain of the historic franchise since the 2015-16 season, where he won an internal vote among teammates to be the Habs’ leader on and off the ice.
