Tom Wilson is known for his tough playing style and on-ice antics. Last night, he was at it again, as he and Rasmus Andersson went at it all night with some hilarious taunts and mockery.
The Washington Capitals defeated the Calgary Flames on Tuesday, but it wasn’t just a game between the two teams—it was also an ongoing battle between Tom Wilson and Rasmus Andersson. Tension was brewing between the two agitators from puck drop, and things escalated when Wilson took a cross-check from Adam Klapka. Wilson exaggerated his response, showing he was in pain, and when he got back up, he started yelling at his opponent as officials had to hold them apart.
Wilson wasn’t done shouting, however, as he and Andersson continued arguing from the bench. In the third period, Andersson took it a step further.
Andersson mocks Tom Wilson
Wilson had given Andersson a shove after the officials had blown the play dead, and the Swedish defenseman responded by mocking Wilson—groaning and grabbing his ribs, just as Wilson had done earlier in the game.
Both players received unsportsmanlike penalties, and the back-and-forth taunts continued in the penalty box.
“It’s emotions, right? I know he gets triggered by certain stuff, and it’s emotions, and when you look back at it, it’s all good on my part at least,” Andersson said, per The Hockey News. “We’re down 2-1 with four minutes left, and there were a couple of scrums. There’s a lot on the line for us, and as I said, it’s a lot of emotions.
“I think that’s one part of the game I enjoy—chirping a little bit and getting under guys’ skin. That’s just the way it went today. Today, it was Wilson.
“It’s not the first time we’ve chirped each other. It was pretty quiet until the end—got him going, got me going, and it worked out for them. And as I said, it’s all fun, and it’s part of the game, at least in my opinion.”
