Take a bow, Quinn Hughes. The Vancouver Canucks‘ star defenseman hasn’t just been one of the best blueliners in the league this season—he also set a brand-new NHL record in a recent game, leaving fans in awe.
The Vancouver Canucks have had their ups and downs this season. They’ve dealt with a notorious feud between star players J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson and currently find themselves outside a playoff spot, locked in a tight race for the final Wild Card position in the Western Conference.
But just imagine where they’d be without Quinn Hughes. The star defenseman and captain is one of the league’s best, and this season, he’s added goal-scoring to his already impressive repertoire. Hughes is also an elite skater—and his latest achievement proves it.
Quinn Hughes’ impressive record
According to a recent NHL EDGE report, Hughes reached a max skating speed of 24.56 miles per hour in Saturday’s game against the New York Rangers, which the Canucks ultimately lost 5-3. Per NHL EDGE, it’s the fastest speed recorded by a defenseman since the league began tracking in the 2021-22 season.
It’s also the fastest by any player this season—and the second-fastest ever recorded, trailing only former Dallas Stars forward Denis Gurianov.
Hughes is also third in the league in ice time this season, behind only Columbus Blue Jackets’ Zach Werenski and Colorado Avalanche’s Cale Makar. He leads the Canucks in scoring and is having a tremendous season, with 16 goals and 67 points.
