Pyotr Kochetkov saved by teammates from ten-game suspension

Pyotr Kochetkov was nearly given an automatic ten-game suspension, but was saved by an attentive teammate. The video of the whole sequence has now gone viral, with everyone absolutely loving his teammates’ heroic effort.

The Hurricanes entered the 2024-25 season as a contender for the cup, but they’re off to a slow start with just two wins through their first four.

They lost against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night, and things got heated at the end of the game, with frustrations running high. As the Blues were able to hold on to a 4-3 lead and the final whistle blew, a big scrum broke out in the Blues defensive zone.

Everyone on the ice got into the mix, and as Blues goalie Joel Hofer decided to get involved by putting his glove in an opponent’s face, Canes goalie Pyotr Kochetkov wanted to get involved as well.

But luckily for Kochetkov, he was stopped by teammates. As soon as the goalie jumped onto the ice, his teammates Dimitri Orlov and Frederik Andersen grabbed him and dragged him straight back onto the bench.

If a player jumps onto the ice from the bench to get involved in a fight, there’s an automatic ten-game suspension coming, per NHL rules. As a goalie, Kochetkov probably had no idea about the rule, but his teammates apparently did, and their actions probably saved him from serious consequences.

A video of the sequence was uploaded on social media on Sunday and quickly went viral. That’s what teammates are for!
