With the Edmonton Oilers reaching the Stanley Cup Final last year, it was understandable that fans had high expectations heading into the 2024-25 season. But now, ahead of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, NHL analyst and podcast host Paul Bissonnette is slamming the team—and their chances.
The Oilers took the Florida Panthers to seven games in last year’s Final. Ultimately, they fell short in the decider, but it was still a big step in the right direction after some tough years. Many expected them to keep progressing, with plenty of predictions making them favorites to win the Cup this season. But so far, they haven’t been as dominant as hoped.
Currently sitting third in the Pacific Division, they’re on track to face the LA Kings in the first round—unless the standings change. Paul Bissonnette, the outspoken NHL analyst, media personality, and Spittin’ Chiclets podcast host, isn’t impressed.
Paul Bissonnette slams the Oilers
In a recent episode, BizNasty ripped into the Oilers’ performance, especially with captain and superstar Connor McDavid sidelined by injury.
“I think that Edmonton needs to get healthy, and things need to start going in the right direction for them,” Bissonnette said. “They need to figure out their f—king goaltending and stop getting their players stolen with offer sheets.”
Bissonnette has been vocal about the Oilers’ offseason mistakes, criticizing the departures of Philip Broberg, Dylan Holloway, and Warren Foegele.
“I feel like Edmonton got smaller, slower, and older in the offseason,” Biz said. “Say what you want about how Skinner’s played lately—he’s been a little better. Nugent-Hopkins has turned the corner. But look at the list of guys they lost. They lost Foegele… and the list goes on. Then they replaced them with the Arvidssons, the Skinners—smaller players.”
