The Toronto Maple Leafs needed a win in Tuesday’s Game 5 against the Boston Bruins to keep their season alive.
But they didn’t look up to standard in Game 4, and playing at TD Garden, many doubted that the Leafs would be able to pull something off.
But they won 2-1 in OT and survived to play another night. They now need to win two straight games, starting with playing at home for Game 6, if they want to remain in the postseason.
Superstar Auston Matthews didn’t play in Game 5. Instead, forward Matthew Knies tucked home the rebound past Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman shortly into overtime to guarantee a Game 6 at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday night.
It was a tough goal for the Boston Bruins to concede, given their collapse in the playoffs last year.
The Bruins completely dominated the regular season and held a 3-1 series lead over the Florida Panthers in the first round of the playoffs. But they went on to lose in overtime in Game 5, and then lost two straight games and got eliminated.
With Toronto’s OT win earlier this week, history could repeat itself, and Paul Bissonnette definitely feels a Leafs comeback is on the horizon.
The NHL analyst hilariously trolled the Bruins, hinting that they’re on the verge of yet another playoff choke.
”The Brick Woll just outperformed your glory boy in your own building. You couldn’t even beat us no Matthews. It’s happening all over again. Choke artists are back. #LeafsForever,” wrote Bissonnette on X, formerly Twitter.
He also issued some advice for the Leafs ahead of tonight’s game.
”Toronto needs the greatest game we’ve ever seen from the Core 4 on Thursday. The Avengers need to assemble in Game 6 in Leafs Land. We need the first 20 to rev up the Yatch Club like we’ve never seen before. Have to come out guns a blazing. Power play needs to get 2 in my opinion. Special teams have to bring it,” he wrote.
