Patrik Laine reveals the hardest hit he’s ever received in the NHL

Patrik Laine is off to a great start in Montreal. Recently, he had the chance to reminisce about some NHL memories and shared a great story about the hardest hit he’s ever received in the league.

Patrik Laine has been through a lot during his NHL career. After emerging as one of the league’s brightest young stars, he endured some tough years before eventually moving to Columbus and, this summer, to Montreal.

After picking up a leg injury during the preseason, Laine is now back in business—and he’s looked great with the Canadiens so far. Last week, he was a guest on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast with Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney, where he talked about his first time in Montreal and reflected on his NHL career.

Laine reveals hardest hit he’s received

During the interview, Laine was asked about the hardest hit he ever received, and he didn’t take long to respond.
“It was my first year. We played in Buffalo, and Jake McCabe just absolutely put me in a body bag,” said Laine.

The hit sent shockwaves through the league, and Patrik Laine admits that he was knocked out cold. To this day, he has no memory of it ever happening.
“I remember getting a backhand pass… and my next memory is waking up in the room,” said Laine. “In between? Nothing. I have no clue what happened.”

For rookie Laine, it was a wake-up call and a lesson learned to keep his head up.
“That was interesting,” said Laine. “It was kind of a ‘Welcome to the league, little kid’ moment.”
