Patrick Roy furious, calls out the NHL after goalie interference call

The New York Islanders have had enough of the goalie interference calls. After yet another questionable decision by the referees on Monday, Patrick Roy absolutely slammed the officials, even suggesting that the NHL should get rid of the situation room in Toronto.

The Islanders thought they had won their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets with 8.9 seconds left after a goal from Kyle Palmieri. The goal would have made it 4-3, securing a crucial win in their playoff push. But the call was overturned for goalie interference, leaving the Islanders absolutely furious.
“I think it was f–king embarrassing,” Palmieri said, per the New York Post. “Couldn’t disagree more with the call.”

The officials immediately waved the goal off, and after a lengthy review, the decision on the ice stood. But looking at the replay, it seemed clear that there was no actual goalie interference. If anything, it appeared that Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins had shoved Palmieri. Islanders head coach Patrick Roy even questioned the purpose of the NHL’s situation room in Toronto if they’re too “afraid” to overturn calls.
“Palmieri was out of the crease and tipped it in. I think their goalie [Elvis Merzlikins] pushed him away at the same time,” Roy said. “So that’s how I see it. If Toronto’s afraid to overturn calls made by the referee, we don’t need Toronto.”

Palmieri also claimed that referee Michael Markovic “couldn’t wait to wave it off.”
“I guess the goalie needs five minutes to get reset and ready for the shot,” he said. “It looked like [Markovic] couldn’t wait to wave it off.”
