Patrick Kane sets new NHL record for most shootout goals

Patrick Kane just set an impressive NHL record. His record-setting goal against the Seattle Kraken also happened to help the Detroit Red Wings secure their seventh consecutive win.

The Detroit Red Wings have looked like a completely new team since Todd McLellan took over coaching duties in late December. He’s been in charge for 20 games, and during that period, the Red Wings have recorded two seven-game winning streaks.

With a win over the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday, they improved to 15-4-1 under their new coach. With 61 points on the season, they hold a one-point lead over the Lightning and Bruins for the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Patrick Kane’s new NHL record

With the win over the Kraken, the Red Wings also swept a four-game road trip for the first time since 1996! And they have Patrick Kane to thank for it.

The game was tied 4-4 after regulation and overtime. But in the shootout, Patrick Kane stepped up and scored the only goal to seal the win for the Red Wings. The shootout goal was Patrick Kane’s 53rd of his career, giving him the most in league history. Coincidentally, Kane moved past his former Chicago teammate, Jonathan Toews, for the most all time. What a feat!
