P.K. Subban defends Brady Tkachuk after heavy criticism

The Ottawa Senators haven’t exceeded expectations to start the 2024-25 season, and some are blaming Brady Tkachuk for it. Now, analyst and former NHLer P.K. Subban makes his thoughts on the matter crystal clear.

With 22 games played in the 2024-25 season, the Senators rank as the 25th-best team, with a win percentage of .477. They currently hold a 10-11-1 record, despite having some of the most exciting young players in the league.

Both fans and experts have been criticizing Brady Tkachuk for his performance at the start of the campaign. Many have slammed Tkachuk for his penalty minutes and for being perhaps a bit too aggressive at times, when he should’ve been playing with more composure.

Brady Tkachuk, the captain of the Senators, currently sits at 25 points in 22 games this season. Now, former NHLer and ESPN analyst P.K. Subban has come out to publicly defend Tkachuk, whom he believes is getting an unfair amount of criticism.

“Which guy checks as many boxes as him?” Subban said in a video posted on his Instagram. “This guy is a monster: skill, speed, size, strength, leadership, and he’s 25 years old… He’s trying to pull a team that’s at the bottom of the barrel, one that’s been sitting there for years.”

Subban also said that Senators fans should not criticize Tkachuk, but instead show him all the appreciation in the world.

“The only way to do that is not to skill your way out of the bottom of the barrel,” Subban said. “No, that’s not going to cut it. You’ve got skill, you gotta fight and claw. You gotta bring energy. You gotta bring passion. Knees gotta be bent, froth coming out of the mouth… There’s an absolute war going on on the ice. This is not tap-dancing. This is not ballet. This is not soccer.”

Previously, Tkachuk has said that he’s just trying to give it his all on the ice and that he’s not too focused on people criticizing him.

“I’ve kind of just been focused on the here and now, and my teammates. And to be honest, I just care about winning here and giving absolutely everything I have for this team.”
