On Sunday, something happened that Toronto Maple Leafs superstar William Nylander had dreamed of for so long: he finally got to play an NHL game with his younger brother, Alexander.
Alexander Nylander joined the Toronto Maple Leafs organization this summer but signed a contract with the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, where he has played all season. However, as more names were added to the Toronto Maple Leafs’ injury list, Nylander signed a contract with the NHL team earlier this week, and on Sunday, he played his first game with the team against Utah HC.
William Nylander’s first game with Alex
Alexander Nylander got 10:37 of ice time, and although he didn’t score or assist in the game, he had a couple of chances. He was on the ice when William Nylander scored to make it 3-1 for Toronto, and the two brothers celebrated together.
“It was fun,” William said, per NHL.com postgame.
“It was very cool,” Alexander said. “I kind of know how he plays; I just tried to read his plays.”
Mitch Marner’s funny words
But it wasn’t just special for the Nylander brothers. Postgame, Mitch Marner had a hilarious comment about what it was like playing with William and Alexander and how things got mixed up due to their resemblance and similarities.
“I think you see it from how they dress on the ice,” Marner said, per TSN.
”You kind of get lost sometimes, thinking, who’s who? Both of them have a lot of swagger and confidence. That’s what you love to see out of those two. And they play with it as well.”
