Mikhail Sergachev humiliating Brendan Gallagher now goes viral

Mikhail Sergachev was the center of attention in Utah HC’s game against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday. Not only did he score the OT winner against his former team, but he also created a hilarious moment by tricking an opponent into thinking he was going to punch him.

The Montreal Canadiens lost 3-2 in OT on Tuesday, but they were absolutely terrible in one crucial category: shots on goal. They managed only 13 (!) shots on goal, including overtime. It was the Canadiens’ lowest shot total since December 7, 2009, in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Canadiens were outshot 14-5 in the first period, 8-3 in the second, and 6-5 in the third. They didn’t register a single shot in OT before Mikhail Sergachev ended the game four minutes and 33 seconds into the extra period.

Sergachev humiliates Gallagher

But Sergachev didn’t just score the game-winner. He was also involved in a heated exchange with Brendan Gallagher during the game, as tensions escalated in the third period. During a scrum behind the goal line, Sergachev humiliated Gallagher by faking a punch just as the referees tried to break things up.

The fake punch caused Gallagher to visibly flinch, and the video of the incident quickly went viral on social media.

Of course, it didn’t take long for Montreal tough guy Arber Xhekaj to get involved, as he jumped Lawson Crouse in the aftermath of the scrum. Once the chaos settled, both David Savard and Mikhail Sergachev were sent to the penalty box—Savard for elbowing Matias Maccelli, and Sergachev for roughing Gallagher.
