The crowd at Xcel Energy Center got to see a real heavyweight fight last night. Marcus Foligno went at it against Canucks’ Zach MacEwen.
It didn’t take long before the Minnesota Wild and Vancouver Canucks squared off. Only minutes into the game, Jake Virtanen and Jason Zucker dropped their gloves with a fight that Wild head coach Bruce Boudreau said sparked the team.
The Wild went up 3-0 in the first period. And in the middle of the second, Zach MacEwen made sure to spark his own team as well.
The winger dropped his gloves against heavyweight opponent Marcus Foligno in a scrap that left the Wild forward bloodied.
“I didn’t feel anything,” Foligno told the Star Tribune after the game.
“Then I looked in the mirror, and it looks like I fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.”
The Minnesota Wild ended up winning 4-2 with Zack Parise ending the scoring, tying Marian Gaborik for the most 20-goal seasons (5) in team history in his 999th career game.
