The Boston Bruins have already made some moves ahead of the next NHL season.
Just half an hour before the Stanley Cup Final Game 7, arguably the biggest game in hockey in a very, very long time, reports came from insiders that star goalie Linus Ullmark was set to leave the Bruins.
The Bruins have had a great goalie par with Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman, with the former getting more playing time in this year’s playoffs.
Not long after, the Bruins confirmed that they had traded the Vezina Trophy winner to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for goalie Joonas Korpisalo, defenseman Mark Kastelic, and a first-round draft pick.
Bruins fans weren’t too happy with the return, and many were also sad about the fact that we’ve seen the last goalie hug between Ullmark and Swayman, which has become a wholesome and much-appreciated ritual in Boston.
Linus Ullmark joined the Bruins from the Buffalo Sabres in 2021, and after three seasons in Boston, he became a huge fan favorite.
Many were sad to see him leave, and it’s obvious just how much the Bruins organization has meant to him.
On social media, Ullmark crafted a beautiful message for his Boston fans and former teammates, leaving Bruins fans in tears.
”Thank you, thank you, thank you,” Ullmark said.
”To all the wonderful teammates, coaches, trainers, workers, chefs, management, the bull gang, and most of all, you Bruins fans. The memories I’ve accumulated during my stay in Boston are too many to count and I will always cherish the friendship and bonds you’ve helped create.
”You guys will always have a special place in my heart, and in my family’s heart.”
Ullmark also shared some of his highlights during his years in Boston.
”Hearing ’Sweet Caroline’ being sung by all the fans during the Winter Classic at Fenway. Bergys 1000th point and Marchys 1000th game. Pasta hitting 60+ goals. Christmas toy shopping for Children’s Hospital (to name one of them). Haloween dress up combined with Hospital visits. ’Swaynta.’ Celebrating 100 years of Bruins hockey.
”Onwards toward new adventures in hockey and in life.”
After his sweet farewell message, Ullmark received plenty of well wishes from Bruins fans, and it’s no doubt he will be very, very missed in Boston.
