Leon Draisaitl takes hilarious jab at best friend Connor McDavid

Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid aren’t just teammates and superstars for the Edmonton Oilers—they’re also best friends, and have been for quite some time. In a new interview with top NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Draisaitl took the opportunity to send a hilarious chirp his pal’s way, joking about how McDavid has changed since winning the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Connor McDavid is widely acknowledged as the best player in the world, and has been for several years. He can create magic out of nothing and has carried the Edmonton Oilers since his long-awaited arrival in the NHL. But all of his massive success wouldn’t have happened without Leon Draisaitl. Both superstars are among the NHL’s elite—and they also happen to be close friends off the ice.

It’s rare for the two to chirp each other; usually, it’s all respectful and polite whenever they speak about one another. But now, in a new video, Draisaitl decided to take a lighthearted jab at McDavid. The clip comes from “Film with Friedge,” where NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman sits down with Draisaitl to break down various plays.

During the chat, they discussed the 4 Nations Face-Off, where McDavid played a key role in helping Canada win gold. When Draisaitl was asked if McDavid’s attitude had changed since the win, he dropped a hilarious line aimed at his friend.
“Yeah, he’s gotten super arrogant,” he said with a grin.

Draisaitl quickly clarified that he was joking, and praised McDavid for always staying grounded.
“He doesn’t change. He’s always the same,” Draisaitl added.

Speaking more generally about McDavid’s performance during the 4 Nations, Draisaitl was full of praise.
“I thought he was good. I think the quality of play is so high that it’s hard to make it look easy… He was very mature, he was really good, and he stepped up when it mattered most,” he said.
