Jordan Binnington challenges Linus Ullmark to goalie fight

Jordan Binnington is one of the best goalies in the NHL, but over the years, he’s become known for more than just stopping pucks. Binnington always plays with a hot temper, and it’s not unusual for him to engage in on-ice shenanigans, especially when things aren’t going his or the Blues’ way.

On Tuesday, St. Louis suffered a stunning 8-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators, and of course, Binnington didn’t wait long to jump in when a scrum broke out behind his net late in the game.

Brady Tkachuk had a busy night, scoring two goals and getting involved in the same scrum.

Jordan Binnington tried to put Tkachuk in a headlock but was quickly shoved away by the officials. Yet Binnington wasn’t done. As he skated toward his bench, he stared down Senators goalie Linus Ullmark, seemingly challenging the Swede to a fight, shrugging his shoulders and saying, “Let’s go!” with his whole body.

With the Senators leading 7-1, it was understandable that Ullmark didn’t accept the challenge from Binnington, although fans would’ve absolutely loved a goalie fight, especially involving Binnington. Although he has tried several times, Binnington has actually never participated in an NHL fight.

According to Ullmark, he had no intention of fighting Binnington and even shared some amusing comments about his teammate Brady Tkachuk, who was primarily involved in the scrum.

“It’s just all an act,” Ullmark told the media postgame. “We’re up at 7-1 at that point, it’s not necessary for me to go down there. Also, he just stood up for his guys and held away one of our best fighters as well. I’m pretty sure that Brady can take care of himself.

“I rather not do anything. I feel it’s unnecessary for me to do that. If the time comes and I have to go in order to stick up for my teammates, I’ll do it, but there wasn’t any need for it today.”

Ullmark has never been in a fight at the professional level and had no plans to change that last night.

“He just shrugged his shoulders, whatever, wondering where I was,” Ullmark said. “I was taking care of business in my end and trying to focus on what’s been working for me this game. I’ll let them deal with whatever happened in that zone.”

With the win, the Senators improved their season record to 5-4-0.
