There’s just no one quite like Jaromir Jagr. He made his first NHL game in 1990, long before most NHL players today were even born, and the fact that he’s still playing, at age 52, in his native Czech Republic, is nothing but mind-blowing.
Jaromir Jagr played with nine different NHL teams from 1990 to 2018, and he even had time to play a couple of seasons in the KHL before leaving for good.
Jagr was also the captain of the Penguins and the Rangers, and he has the second-most points in NHL history, only behind Wayne Gretzky. Jagr is the oldest player in the league ever to record a hat trick, and he’s been both the youngest and the oldest player in the league.
Jaromir Jagr has won the Art Ross Trophy five times and the Hart Memorial once, finishing second four times.
Jagr’s incredible career
Jagr is a living legend, perhaps most known for how long he played in the league. Sometimes, it’s almost like fans forget just how great he really was at his best and how dominant he could be.
Jagr is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, and his stats and numbers in the league throughout the years back it up. He scored 766 goals throughout his amazing NHL career, so it should be difficult to pick out a favorite one.
But Jagr himself has a really special goal as his No. 1 all-time.
The Pittsburgh Penguins trailed Game 1 early in the 1992 Stanley Cup Finals against the Chicago Blackhawks, and the Blackhawks had a 4-1 lead when Jagr displayed his incredible stickhandling, deking through three Blackhawks players before beating Ed Belfour.
Jaromir Jagr’s favorite goal
It sparked an incredible comeback from the Penguins, who eventually won before going on to sweep the series.
”All demens on how you look at it. I’ve probably scored nicer goals, I’ve scored a lot of nice goals, but it was important,” Jagr said when guesting the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast.
”I don’t remember how I did it; I know I did it because I’ve seen it on YouTube, but if you would ask me how I did it, I don’t even know. It’s interesting, but it became an even bigger goal because Mario scored probably 10 seconds to go, a game-winner, so you know … the game was so important. We were down 4-1 with half of the game, and we changed it. Then we swept Chicago 4-0, and I think this first game at home kind of, you know, made the note.”
