Jacob Trouba is back at it. The veteran defenseman once again enraged fans with yet another high and dangerous hit on Sunday, followed by a heated scrap with Brayden Schenn.
Trouba has always played a hard, physical style of hockey—that’s what made him captain of the New York Rangers and a fan favorite in Manhattan. But he has also earned a reputation for delivering high, often dangerous hits. And even though he now plays for the Anaheim Ducks, his approach to the game hasn’t changed.
On Sunday night, the Ducks faced off against the St. Louis Blues, and in the final minute of the first period, Trouba was back to his on-ice antics. He suddenly launched himself into the head of Blues star forward Jordan Kyrou. Upon review, it appeared that Jacob Trouba stuck his arm out as he lunged forward, making direct contact with Kyrou’s head.
Jacob Trouba slammed by fans
Kyrou fell to the ice and stayed down, clutching his head. But Trouba had to answer for the hit, as Blues captain Brayden Schenn immediately challenged him to a fight. Jacob Trouba was more than ready, landing several big punches and seemingly getting the better of Schenn.
On social media, many fans slammed Jacob Trouba for the dangerous hit, calling for the league to take action and suspend him.
“I want this guy out of the league,” one person wrote.
“Dude just laces ’em up and goes out there on a mission every game to single-handedly give guys CTE with no shame about it,” another added.
“Buddy can’t help himself,” a third said.
