Iconic referee Wes McCauley goes viral with great fighting call

For the first time in the 2024-25 NHL season, we have a hilarious Wes McCauley moment! The veteran NHL official is known for his entertaining calls on the hot mic, and he just produced a moment of magic on Tuesday that has now gone viral.

Most NHL referees try to stay out of the spotlight when officiating games, but McCauley is a different breed, and over the years, he’s had plenty of moments that have had fans laughing out loud.

Besides being a great referee and the most experienced, he’s a pure entertainer, and he showed that in Tuesday’s game between the Nashville Predators and the Boston Bruins.

The Nashville Predators entered Tuesday’s game against the Bruins with five straight losses and immediately showed that they wouldn’t take any prisoners. In the game’s first minutes, defenseman Luke Schenn and Bruins forward Mark Kastelic dropped the gloves.

When McCauley announced the upcoming penalties, he did it in the most McCauley fashion.

”Five minutes each … for FIGHTING!” McCauley almost screamed out.

Wes McCauley became a referee after injury forced him to retire as a player in 1997. He officiated his first NHL games in 2003, and two years afterward, he became a full-time NHL official.

From 2013 to 2023, he officiated in every Stanley Cup Final except for two years where he was injured or tested positive for Covid-19.

The Nashville Predators were able to grab their first W of the season against the Bruins, with a 4-0 victory.
