Huge error in Boston Bruins broadcast robs viewers of seeing goal

The Boston Bruins came out flying against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday, but fans watching the game on NESN’s broadcast were robbed of seeing a power-play goal—thanks to a major blunder.

David Pastrnak opened the scoring just 29 seconds into the game, giving the Bruins a perfect start. Before the first period ended, Pastrnak recorded an assist on Brad Marchand’s power-play goal, making it 2-0 for Boston.

Then, exactly halfway through the second period, Morgan Geekie found the back of the net on another power play. However, fans watching on NESN were unexpectedly denied the chance to see the puck cross the goal line.

Major blunder in Boston Bruins broadcast

Someone at the network made a massive mistake. As the Bruins pressed on the power play, looking to extend their lead to three, NESN abruptly cut to a commercial. Instead of witnessing Geekie’s goal, viewers were treated to an ad for Chipotle’s new braised beef barbacoa. While it may have looked delicious, it wasn’t what Bruins fans wanted to see at that moment. The commercial aired just after Geekie fired a shot into an open net following a rebound off the Maple Leafs’ goalie.

Fans on social media reacted with disbelief at the network’s blunder:
“No way it was that perfectly timed lol,” one fan wrote.
“Man, that’s so bad,” another added.
“Bruins fans wishing they missed the 3rd period,” a third joked.

Boston allowed three goals in the third period while scoring just one, sending the game to overtime tied 4-4. Four minutes and eight seconds into OT, Mitch Marner sealed the win for Toronto.
