A familiar face showed up during Monday’s Pittsburgh Penguins game, and not for the reason anyone had expected.
We always love seeing former NHLers show up to games today, and they often get some recognition. However, Tyler Kennedy, a former Pittsburgh Penguin with 527 games played in the NHL from 2008 to 2016, was just minding his own business when a big coincidence led to him being on camera.
In the second period of the game against the Nashville Predators, a puck got tipped out of play, and a lucky fan got to go home with a souvenir.
That lucky fan just so happened to be former NHL player Tyler Kennedy.
When a puck was deflected into the crowd, the former Penguins forward reacted quickly and snagged the puck out of the air with his left hand. Tyler Kennedy wasn’t alone at the game.
He had his young son with him, and of course, he gave the puck away. The young kid couldn’t have been happier about it, as it resulted in an ear-to-ear smile.
Kennedy was drafted by the Pens in 2004 and went on to spend six seasons in Pittsburgh. He also won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 2009.
In 2013, he was traded to the San Jose Sharks, and he also went on to play with the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils before retiring in 2017.
Today, you could never tell he was a hockey player, as he looked more like a former baseball player with those reflexes.
What a great moment in Pittsburgh, and to the delight of Kennedy and his young son, the Penguins also went on to win the game 4-2, keeping their hopes of reaching the Stanley Cup playoffs intact.
