During a game between the Buffalo Sabres and the New Jersey Devils, Stefan Noesen delivered a brutal shoulder to the head of Tage Thompson. Noesen can expect a suspension for the play, but now, fans are all pointing out one interesting thing about the incident.
Tage Thompson is the Buffalo Sabres’ leading scorer this season. But during Sunday’s game, he was forced to leave after a brutal and dangerous hit from Noesen. Thompson was lunging for the puck in the Sabres’ zone when Noesen charged at him.
He went straight for Thompson’s head, and the hit knocked the star forward’s helmet off. Thompson remained down on the ice for a while before skating off to the dressing room. Noesen was ejected from the game, and the NHL will now determine whether he will receive a suspension for the hit.
Fans furious after hit on Tage Thompson
Thompson had a goal and two assists in the Sabres’ 4-3 victory. He is arguably the team’s best player and their offensive powerhouse, yet the brutal hit on him sparked no response from his teammates on the ice. No one made Noesen answer the bell for his hit, and on social media, fans slammed the Sabres for not standing up for Thompson.
“So tired of our guys not standing up for each other,” one fan wrote.
“The rest of the Buffalo players just look around to see if anyone is gonna do anything to Noesen. What a pathetic response, shows the culture they have in Buffalo,” another said.
“Imagine fighting the guy who got a match ejection for knocking out your best player. Not the Sabres,” a third added.
“Wow, Buffalo. Disgraceful. Is that why they’ve sucked for so long? No culture in the locker room? This is just sad,” a fourth wrote.
