Evgeni Malkin was the victim of a terrible crime this weekend when his home was burglarized. Among other things, Malkin had three cherished hockey-related items stolen, and they are still missing.
The Penguins are working with local police on the ongoing investigation. According to KDKA-TV, Malkin, a three-time Stanley Cup champion, had all three of his Stanley Cup championship rings stolen from his home.
Media reports indicate that Malkin’s alarm system and cameras were not operational at the time of the burglary. According to the same source, the Penguins played the Ottawa Senators at home on Saturday, and the 911 call reporting the break-in came just a few hours later.
Police investigation after burglary at Malkin’s
Malkin was not in the lineup on Saturday due to an injury but returned for Monday’s game against the Kraken. The Penguins lost the game 4-2. The team has stated that they will make no further comments on the matter. A spokesperson for the Allegheny County Police Department is seeking information from anyone who may have knowledge about the incident.
In a text message to The New York Times, Malkin confirmed the burglary and the missing Stanley Cup rings. “Yes, two days ago,” he said on Monday, adding that no one was home at the time of the break-in.
