Every time the in-state rivals Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers play, it’s feisty. And Monday’s contest between the teams was no exception.
With the Pittsburgh Penguins up two goals early in the third, Kris Letang was bloodied 5:43 into the period, after getting a stick in the face from Nicolas Deslauriers.
Just a moment earlier, the Russian superstar had thrown Garnet Hathaway to the ice.
With Hathaway and Letang both in the penalty boxes, Scott Laughton and Evgeni Malkin scuffled along the back boards, and Malkin even delivered a punch in the face to Laughton.
As they both got sent to the penalty boxes, the chirping continued between the boxes. Malkin turned to the Flyers’ box, where three players were sitting, and pointed at the scoreboard.
Cameras caught the great ‘look at the scoreboard’ chirp, and it was pretty obvious what Malkin said to his opponents: “Yeah? What is the score, f—king a—hole!?”
The video of Malkin’s great chirp quickly went viral, with everyone loving the absolute classic. “Doesn’t matter how old you get, the ‘look at the scoreboard’ chirp always hits,” Spittin’ Chiclets wrote on X.
Earlier in the third period, Malkin had scored a goal to make it 4-1 for the Pens, and he also had an assist in the game.
The Russian superstar led his Penguins to a win over their rivals, and it was just overall a tough night for the Philadelphia Flyers.
Hours before the game, it was announced they traded 2022 fifth overall draft pick Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks after he allegedly refused to talk with the organization.
