Keeping your head up with the puck has been ingrained in the minds of young hockey players from day one. If your head is up, you allow yourself to see the ice, make smarter decisions and watch out for the opposition. If it’s down, there’s a good chance you’re going to find the body of the other team.
Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall thrived off the opportunity to knock an opposing player down. He did it so many times that the term ‘Kronwalled’ became a regular word used amongst hockey fans.
Vancouver Canucks forward Jake Virtanen was almost another member of the Krownwalled club. After picking up the puck in his own end, he looked up to find Kronwall. But this time, it wasn’t the six-foot Swedish defenceman laying the body, it was Virtanen. Basically, Kronwall just got Virtanen’d.

It may soon be time for Kronwall to pass the torch to a younger player. Virtanen proved he could throw his weight around, and what better way to pass the torch than have a nickname associated with heavy hits.
