To say Boston Bruins Forward Brad Marchand is disliked outside of Beantown is a bit of an understatement.
In the dying moments of a meeting between New Jersey and Boston, Damon Severson introduced Brad Marchand to a clean, open-ice hit. The play resulted in the Bruins clinching the game away with an empty-netter, but I have a hard time believing Severson will be reprimanded by his team for taking the player.
Of course, it was another situation in which a clean, open-ice hit resulted in a scrum following the check. The crowd was certainly split as Boston supporters were jubilant after clinching the game, and New Jersey fans were ecstatic that one of the NHL’s greatest pests was knocked on his back.
As we know, Marchand was suspended after elbowing New Jersey’s Marcus Johansson in the head. Marchand was suspended for 5 games and without pay. Johansson has a history of concussion issues and has not played since the hit occurred on January 23rd.
