Connor McDavid has been widely acknowledged as the world’s best player for several years. Still, in seven seasons, he had never reached 50 goals. But this campaign has been one for the ages, and if there was any doubt whether McDavid is the greatest right now, it’s gone now.
Connor McDavid reached 50 goals for the first time in his career in late February this year. He scored his 50th of the season in his 61st game, and since, he hasn’t slowed down one bit. Only three active players had reached the 60-goal club prior to Wednesday, but now, Connor McDavid has joined the elite club as well.
In McDavid’s 72st game this season, McDavid scored his 60th goal, and he’s the first Oilers to reach the plateau since Wayne Gretzky in 1986-87.
Connor McDavid also became the fastest player to 60 goals since Mario Lemieux did it in 1986. McDavid scored two goals in Edmonton’s 4-3 OT win against the Arizona Coyotes, and he was understandable in a great mood postgame.
Lucky for everyone who enjoys hockey, TNT broadcasted the game, and that also led to a hilarious moment in the postgame interview. The TNT panel is known for bringing out the best of someone, but McDavid is no Ryan Reaves or Brad Marchand when it comes to chirping.
He keeps a way lower profile, and it’s not usual for him to chirp on live TV. But last night, he got some serious laughs as he chirped non other than Paul Bissonnette.
When McDavid was interviewed by the TNT crew, BizNasty noticed something on McDavid’s shirt. He asked what it was, and McDavid explained it was to protect his collarbones.
”Oh, I thought maybe like, magnets or something. That it was the secret behind all your juice you got out there, buzzing up and down the ice. I was going to make a comeback, get my hands on one of those,” Bissonnette said.
And that’s when McDavid couldn’t resist the opportunity to burn BizNasty.
”No, I think you’re right where you’re supposed to be there,” he said.
When Bissonnette asked what’s happening, McDavid said.
”No, I just think you’re doing a great job.”
You absolutely love to see it!
