In Game 2, it was Cole Caufield who found himself at the center of attention following another no-call by the officials. With the Canadiens trailing 2–1 late in the third period, Caufield was cross-checked in the face by Capitals forward Connor McMichael right after a close-range shot attempt. To the confusion and frustration of both players and fans, no penalty was assessed.
