It wasn’t a great game for the Pittsburgh Penguins last night. The team allowed 5-goals in the first period and 8 in total en route to being pummeled 8-4. Frustration reached its peak during the start of the second period, with the Bruins already up 6-3 in the contest.
Charlie McAvoy was hit earlier in the game by Patric Hornqvist. The hit opened up a previous cut on McAvoy’s nose. Charlie didn’t forget, however, as in the second period McAvoy dumped Olli Maatta along the half boards. Two seconds later the young defender skated and returned the favor to Hornqvist, drilling him into the boards. A scrum ensued behind the Boston goal.
In the middle of the scrum, Zdeno Chara used his reach to his advantage, landing two solid shots on former teammate Phil Kessel. Kessel didn’t like that Chara nonchalantly punched him in the face, so Phil went after the huge defender. Kessel was clearly fired up but even he knew nothing could be done to the gigantic Chara. The pair exchanged words and nothing was done after the initial jab to the face from Chara, and who could blame Kessel.
It doesn’t matter if you’re former teammates, once you don another organization’s sweater you instantly become the enemy.
