In the NHL, more than in any other league or sport in the world, players will play through pain, bumps, and bruises to reach their goals.
In hockey, it means achieving their lifelong dream of winning the Stanley Cup.
Every playoff, there’s that one player who, after winning the Cup or getting eliminated, reveals he’s been playing through an injury, sometimes multiple ones, that just takes fans’ breaths away.
This year, it’s Seth Jarvis.
Jarvis had a great season with the Carolina Hurricanes, but his and the team’s season came to an end last week as they were eliminated in a tight series against the New York Rangers.
This season was Jarvis’ best of his career, reaching 33 goals and 34 assists in 81 regular season games. And he did it injured.
On Sunday, Jarvis informed media that he, for the majority of the season, played with both a torn labrum and rotator cuff.
It’s no doubt that any athlete would be affected by those types of injuries, but still, he pushed through it and had the best season of his career.
And if that wasn’t enough, he suffered a broken finger during the playoffs, but he played through even that, scoring five goals and four assists in eleven postseason games before elimination.
When asked about why he put himself through pain like that, he responded like everyone would expect a hockey player to
”I’ll do whatever I need to get out there,” said Jarvis. ”I didn’t want to miss an opportunity with this kind of group.”
On social media, fans were stunned to find out about Jarvis’ severe injuries, and it just proves that hockey players are a different breed.
